Carpet Buying Guide
2.5 Togs

Underfloor Heating Systems are becoming increasingly popular for new build residential and commercial developments and are considered an extremely efficient and comfortable option for heating the home. This is why it is important to choose the right Kingsmead Carpet which can be used over underfloor heating in order to maximise the effectiveness of any underfloor heating system installed. In order for your underfloor heating system to operate efficiently it is recommended that the combined thermal resistance of carpet and underlay should not exceed a rating of 2.5 togs. Please be assured that carpet and underfloor heating systems can operate effectively and efficiently together, but we do recommend that you consult the heating manufacturer to ensure that your carpet/underlay combination allows heat to be transmitted.

Wool

Wool is a natural, durable, easy to clean fibre. It retains its appearance well and offers softness underfoot. It doesn't flatten easily and resists abrasion and dirt. It has natural insulation properties which is good for reducing both heat loss and noise. Wool is a sustainable fibre too and can be bought either in a pure 100% form or in a blend with other fibres with at least 50% wool. However, it's more expensive than man-made fibres, so the most common carpet fibre blend is 80% wool and 20% synthetic fibre mix, as this combines the best properties of both.

Polypropylene

Highly stain resistant, easy to clean, and durable. Some of our polypropylene carpets are even bleach cleanable. Polypropylene offers exceptional value for money and so can be a good budget carpet option. For those with pets and young families our clean easy range has proven to be very popular.

Twist

Twist pile carpets are created from yarn which has been twisted tightly together and right now, it's the most popular kind of carpet being produced. Twists come in plain colours, and also a 'heather' look, which is made by combining yarns of complimentary shades together. Ideal for any liveable room in the home, twists come in the widest variety of fibres, colours, shades and prices.

Loop

Looped pile or Berber carpet is extremely durable and practical and excellent at maintaining its appearance. Not only does it hide footprints well, but it also offers texture to a plain carpet. The yarn used in making looped pile is quite heavy and wide, and the loops can be made at either a uniform height, or different heights, to form a textured pile.

Saxony

Dense and luxurious, Saxony is a cut pile carpet made with longer tufts for a very soft feel that's smooth to the touch. Saxony is comprised of twisted, cut pile tufts that have a uniformed appearance. The soft and dense nature of this carpet can show footprints so we don't recommend it for high traffic areas although it's perfect for bedrooms.

Plain

Plain carpets use a single colour way to give a uniform finish.

Stripe

Popular on stairs, we have a range of striped carpets available for those looking for something more visually impacting

Heather

Twist pile carpets are created from yarn which has been twisted tightly together and right now, it's the most popular kind of carpet being produced. Twists come in plain colours, and also a 'heather' look, which is made by combining yarns of complimentary shades together. Ideal for any liveable room in the home, twists come in the widest variety of fibres, colours, shades and prices.

Heather & Berber

Heathers and Berbers are a mix of 2 or more complimentary colours to add texture to the appearance of the carpet. This type of finish helps hide bits and small marks.

Aftercare

For day to day cleaning, the use of a vacuum cleaner is recommended. Professional cleaning is recommended to prolong the life of the carpet.

In the event of a spillage:

1) Loose dirt should be removed with a vacuum cleaner
2) Dried in dirt can be removed using the back of a knife or similar object and then removed as in (1)
3) Blot up any liquids using absorbent white cloth or kitchen towel. If necessary, dilute using lukewarm clean water and blot again.
